This two-day virtual training provides a hands-on, comprehensive approach to CBT-informed strategies for crisis response. This training presents utilizing a CBT lens for understanding personal reactions to crises situations, de-escalation techniques for stabilization, and clinically-informed decision-making pathways. Participants will learn to conduct the narrative interview to inform case conceptualization and understanding of crisis triggers. The Stanley-Brown Safety Planning Intervention, an efficacious intervention for suicidal crises, is a key focus. De-escalation strategies and CBT-based techniques for managing acute crises not related to suicide will also be explored, alongside connecting individuals to subsequent stages of care and postvention resources. Throughout, role plays and case discussions ensure practical application of evidence-based treatment & skills for real-world crisis response.
Consultation overview: Following the workshop, Penn training consultants will lead a weekly consultation for 4 months via Zoom. Consultation sessions will focus on the application of workshop content to real patients/clients – both reflecting on clinicians’ previous experiences and proactively answering questions about how to apply the content in future situations. The Penn training team will hold responsibility for hosting the calls, sending reminders, and sharing the zoom link with learners. Participants can choose to participate on a drop-in basis or pursue a certificate of completion.
