Community Re-entry - July 8-9, 2021

Training Location: Zoom Meeting

Webcam (preferably not a cell phone/tablet) and audio are required for participation.

This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs. Peer Specialists have priority for this training.

The Peer Support for Community Re-entry endorsement training has been developed by Via Hope Texas Mental Health Resource to train Peer Support Specialists in Texas to assist individuals who are facing mental health challenges and are engaged with the criminal justice system. Peer Support Specialists utilize their own recovery experience to help others to improve their health and wellness, live a self- directed life, and reach their full potential, all within a peer-supported community of recovery.

This two-day virtual training provides a grounding in the knowledge, skills and tools needed by a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) in order to effectively supporting a peer’s transition from a community of confinement and incarceration to a community of choice. The course is taught by Peer Support Specialist trainers who have experience in mental health recovery and who were previously involved with the criminal justice system.

This virtual training provides 13 hours of Continuing Education Credits for the following licenses: Psychologist, Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist, Chemical Dependency Counselor, Peer Specialist, Supported Employment Specialist and Certified Family Partner. Upon successful completion of this virtual training, you will earn a certificate of completion and (if applicable) continuing education credit.
