Core Motivational Interviewing for SUD Providers: May 2-3, 2024

This virtual training is being sponsored by the HHSC Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Programs. SUD contractors have priority for this training. HCBS agencies are not eligible to attend this training.

The goal of the two-day (12-hr) core training will be to offer all participants the opportunity to learn the basic skill set needed for MI, the underlying spirit and building blocks, and how it may be utilized in a variety of settings. Real play and practice are a large part of this experience.

Goal: Participants will gain an understanding of basic MI uses and principles, and develop beginning skills and strategies.

Objectives:

1. Describe the four-tasks model utilized in Motivational Interviewing

2. Explain the contrast of sustain and change talk

3. Discuss concrete strategies for addressing discord in the conversation.

4. Demonstrate through real-play the ability to elicit change talk and provide empathic reflective statements.

 

Cancellations, Substitutions and Refunds Policy:

Live In Person/Virtual Trainings:

• A colleague may be substituted at no extra charge if Centralized Training is notified at least two business days before the training.

• Requests for refunds for an in-person/virtual workshop must be received 72 hours prior to the workshop.

Self-Paced Online Trainings:

• No refunds are offered for self-paced online trainings.
