Illness Management and Recovery

This self-paced online course will cover IMR. Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) is an evidence-based practice focused on empowering individuals to manage their psychiatric illnesses and make informed decisions about their recovery. The practice is collaborative, offering a range of knowledge, strategies, and skills across eleven topic areas and the goal is to help individuals set personal recovery goals and gain the skills needed for their treatment journey. This content is primarily based on the SAMHSA Illness Management and Recovery Evidence-Based Practice Toolkit and training from Harry Cunningham of the Mental Health Center at Greater Manchester.

Topics covered include:

  • Motivational, educational, cognitive-behavioral, and recovery strategies

  • The Stress-Vulnerability Model

  • Building social supports, getting your needs met, and healthy lifestyles

  • Drug and alcohol use

  • Reducing symptom recurrence

  • Coping with stress, problems, and persistent symptoms
