Motivational Enhancement for People Experiencing Early Psychosis for CSC for FEP Only Virtual: June 12-13, 2024

This training is for CSC-FEP Providers ONLY.

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) is a person-centered counseling approach for supporting healthy change among people with alcohol or substance use disorders (SUD). The MET practitioner uses a set of specific, teachable techniques within a non-judgmental atmosphere to recognize and validate clients’ location on the continuum of sustain-to-change, to increase clients’ willingness to discuss their SUD and its effect on their life, and to stir intrinsic motivation within the client to take action toward growth and health when they are ready.

MET, and it’s parent approach, Motivational Interviewing (MI), have shown robust evidence of effectiveness in improving SUD as well as other health behavior problems, such as smoking, treatment non-adherence, diet and exercise, and MI is even effective in professional supervisory relationships. MET can be delivered flexibly, in as little as a single meeting or over a long-term helping relationship.

Because of the broad evidence-based of MET/MI, the tools learned in this workshop can benefit helpers of all types, including counselors, care managers, peers, vocational specialists, family partners, and even Team Leads and clinical administrators.
