From Research to Practice: Applying Motivational Interviewing in SUD Treatment Virtual: June 6-7, 2023

This virtual training is being sponsored by the HHSC Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Programs. SUD contractors have priority for this training.

This DOES NOT meet HHSC Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) training requirement.

This virtual training will introduce participants to the theories, principles, and skills of MI with a specific focus on working with persons who live with a substance use disorder. The training will concentrate primarily on the use of MI by clinical professionals and will include the use of role and real-play to demonstrate and practice skills. Following the Eight Stages of Learning MI, participants will be guided through a sequence of learning activities to develop and refine the skills of MI and to begin a process for developing proficiency in MI. Students will also become proficient in identifying and coding MI skills. Use of MI skills with other counseling methods will also be covered.

This virtual training provides 13.5 hours of Continuing Education Credits for the following licenses: Psychologist, Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist, Chemical Dependency Counselor, and Supported Employment Specialist. Upon successful completion of this virtual training, you will earn a certificate of completion and (if applicable) continuing education credit.
