This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs.

Eligibility Requirements: This training is open to anyone working in a peer supporter role at their agency (this includes certified Peer Specialists and Family Partners).

Peer Practice: Crisis Support is a one-day, virtual training that was developed for Peer Specialists to learn how to better support people in crisis. It is comprised of six modules, which blend information, activities and group discussion.

Many of the tools and techniques center around utilizing lived experience and sharing stories or snippets to build trust and to collaboratively create solutions for a person in crisis. Participants explore the connection between crisis and trauma to be more trauma-responsive and healing-centered in their approach. The training also includes information and tips on how to navigate conversations regarding suicidal thoughts and feelings. There is an emphasis on cultivating personal wellness as a necessary component of offering crisis support.
