The Power of Preparation: Peer Specialists in the Pre-Planning Process of PCRP Virtual: July 24, 2025

This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs.

Eligibility Requirements: Registrants must be certified Peer Specialists (MHPS or RSPS).

This training is designed for peer specialists and those that work alongside them to explore the essential and often under-recognized role that peer support plays in the pre-planning phase of Person-Centered Recovery Planning (PCRP). Before any formal planning meetings take place, peer specialists are uniquely positioned to build trust, support self-reflection, and help individuals identify their own goals, strengths, and preferences—laying the groundwork for a truly person-centered plan. The session also invites participants to examine the tensions that may arise when peer professionals strive to maintain a non-directive, non-clinical stance within systems heavily shaped by clinical practices. Through discussion and reflection, we’ll clarify what peer support can and should offer in PCRP settings, especially in the early engagement and preparation phases, and how ethics and role clarity can strengthen the peer contribution to planning processes.
