Principles to Practice for Peer Specialists (Two-Part Series) Virtual: June 17 and July 1, 2025

This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs.

Eligibility Requirements: Registrants must be certified Peer Specialists (MHPS or RSPS). Please ensure you are able to attend both sessions (June 17 and July 1, 2025) prior to enrolling.

People who work in the Behavioral Health Field often believe in and are aligned with the principles of peer support in theory. However more questions are raised around aligning our practices with our principles and ultimate purpose. For instance, peer staff often believe in the principle of choice. The individuals that they support however, may be locked into pre-determined expectations regarding the frequency, modality and focus of their support, with little choice or say in who they work with or what their services look like. By participating in this session peer staff will:

  • Become familiar with ultimate purpose and principles for peer support services

  • Understand the importance of principle and practice alignment

  • Identify key quality indicators for best practices.

  • Leave with a plan on how they might strengthen or expand their practices to align with their principles and goals of not only supporting people’s recovery processes but also supporting them in re-claiming and transforming their lives within their communities.
