This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs.
Eligibility Requirements: Registrants must be certified Peer Specialists (MHPS or RSPS).
Peer Support Services is still a relatively new profession in the Behavioral Health Field. It is not uncommon for other staff, organization and community partners to not understand the nuances in peer support ethics, principles and core competencies. This can often lead to peer support roles being misunderstood, undervalued and underutilized. Peer staff can find themselves in a position of having to advocate to maintain their peerness, advocating for principle alignment and often find themselves in the role of educating others on recovery-oriented practices. By participating in this training peer staff will learn how to advocate and educate strategically and diplomatically.
