Verbal Crisis De-Escalation Virtual: July 30, 2026

This virtual training is being sponsored by HHSC Peer and Recovery Services Programs.

Registrants must be certified Peer Specialists (MHPS or RSPS) and/or Certified Family Partners (CFP).

Responding effectively to a crisis begins long before a situation escalates. This training equips participants with trauma-informed communication strategies that promote safety, preserve dignity, and reduce the likelihood of further escalation. Participants will explore the widespread impact of trauma, recognize how trauma responses can influence behavior, and learn practical techniques that support connection during moments of distress.

Through interactive discussion and skill-building exercises, participants will practice active listening, respectful limit setting, and offering meaningful choices while understanding the ethical responsibilities, organizational policies, and professional roles that guide crisis response. The training also emphasizes the importance of personal well-being by encouraging participants to develop self-care strategies that reduce compassion fatigue and support long-term effectiveness. By the end of the course, participants will be better prepared to respond to crises with confidence, compassion, and a recovery-oriented approach that supports both the individual in crisis and them.
