Changing Times: Supporting Youth with Use Disorders: May 4, 2026

1:00pm-4:00pm CST

Trainer: Fredrick Dombrowski, PhD, LMHC, LPC, LADC, MAC ACS

This virtual training is being sponsored by the HHSC Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Programs. SUD contractors have priority for this training.

Changes in culture, population, beliefs, etc. are impacting all aspects of the population. As such, these changes also impact substance use and other use disorders. As youth (adolescent and young adulthood) is the time for ongoing brain development, some youth may lack the executive functioning to limit use of substances or behaviors. The substances and other use disorders that youth are at risk for are different than those in previous generations. Clinicians are expected to be on front lines of the experiences of youth to provide appropriate support and treatment intervention. When attending this presentation, participants will be able to identify how changes in technology can impact youth use disorders. Participants will identify the common substances used by young adults and adolescents. Participants will identify how to apply evidence-based treatment strategies to support youth (and their families) who may be living with various use disorders.
